The University Writing Center
Imagine this: You’ve got a writing assignment and you’re sitting in front of your computer looking at a blank screen. You’re stumped; the words won’t come to you, or the assignment just doesn’t make sense. We’ve all been there. But fortunately, for situations like this there’s the University Writing Center (UWC), an on-campus resource for students seeking feedback on their writing.
The UWC (115 Halle Library; 734-487-0694) welcomes students of all disciplines, both undergrad and graduate, to participate in one-on-one writing consulting with one of our consultants. At the UWC, our motto is, “Make better writers, not just better writing!” Our aim is to improve students’ writing and thinking, while also addressing their immediate concerns in a session. Our consultants offer personalized feedback on student writing at any stage of the writing process. This means that we can help students with anything from brainstorming to revising. And we don’t stop there! We also welcome writing that isn’t school-related, including creative writing and professional documents.
To work with one of our consultants, students can make appointments or drop in between the hours of 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays. The UWC will remain open until the end of the semester, Thursday, December 11.
In addition to our main location, the UWC also has several satellite locations across campus (in Owen, Marshall, Pray-Harrold, and Mark Jefferson). These satellites provide localized writing support to students in various colleges and programs across campus. Satellite locations and hours can be found on the UWC website.
Students seeking writing support at any location of the UWC should bring a draft of what they are working on and their assignment sheet, if it’s for a class. This helps the consultant provide feedback catered to the assignment’s requirements.
We hope to see you at the UWC sometime soon!
